Vernice LaDonna Stockton, 64, of Corinth, Mississippi, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Cornerstone Health and Rehab. She was born on September 18, 1950. A 1968 graduate of Corinth High School, Ms. Stockton furthered her education by receiving both her bachelors and masters degrees from Mississippi State University. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Her life was spent devoted to the betterment of her community through many organizations and activities; she was a member of the Alcorn County Drug Busters, the American Cancer Society, the Northeast Mississippi Concert Association Symphony League, the Tourism Promotion Council, the Northeast Mississippi Museum Association, and a lifetime member of the Corinth Junior Auxiliary. Her passion for reading was exhibited in her longtime ownership of Corinth's Spice of Life Bookstore and her membership in both the Crossroads and Corinth Literacy Councils. She loved and was well loved by her family, particularly her nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled for 1 PM until service time at 3 PM on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, officiated by Dr. Leonard Pratt. Interment will follow in Forrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kevin Stockton, Jeffrey Stockton, Wesley Stockton, Lew Talbert, David Thorne, Larry McDaniel, Travis Wilbanks, and Marty Sellers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Corinth High School Class of 1968. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include her mother: Jewel S. Stockton; brother: Terry Stockton; sister-in-law: Carol Stockton; brother: Ricky Stockton and his wife, Ginger; her nephews: Kevin Stockton and wife, Cyndi; Jeffrey Stockton; Wesley Stockton and wife, Laurie; her nieces Sara Beth Green and husband Kolby; Emily Anne Shillito and husband, Brad; her great-nephew: Harrison Green, and her great-nieces: Lainie and Maisy Jarman, all of Corinth. Ms. Stockton was preceded in death by her father, Truitt Stockton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Christ United Methodist Church, the Corinth Junior Auxiliary, or the Corinth Library.
