About Us | Magnolia Funeral Home

History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our Past

On May 12, 1993, the doors of Magnolia Funeral Home, located at 1223 Tate Street in Corinth, were opened to serve the needs of the people of Corinth/Alcorn County and the surrounding counties with dignity and respect. Magnolia Funeral Home was locally owned and operated by Charlie Browning, Leroy Brown, Jim Calvary, James (Jim) Johnson and James Cornelius. Magnolia Funeral Home began in the former Tate Street Baptist Church building where we served the community for 11 years.

Our Present

Magnolia Funeral Home purchased and remodeled the former Oakland Baptist Church building in 2004. It has the largest seating capacity of any funeral home chapel in the surrounding area and is handicapped accessible. We offer two nicely appointed state rooms which provides an area for video tributes to be displayed.  Our foyer area is large and spacious and our  refreshment room, with full kitchen facilities, allows visitors and family a place to sit down and take a moment for a refreshment.

We fully understand that our future rests upon the quality of service we provide our families, the compassion we extend and the promise to provide dignified funerals in a warm atmosphere of genuine love and concern.

The Magnolia family takes great pride in the comforting atmosphere and décor of our funeral home. We have recently updated our state rooms, refreshment room and our foyer area with beautifully appointed furnishings and paintings. In these relaxed surroundings, you'll find caring and dedicated people who are here for you when you need us the most.

Nathan Dixon

Nathan Dixon, Funeral Director/Mortician

Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of our dear friend and co-worker, Nathan Dixon, who departed this life into eternity on Sunday, June 18, 2017. There are no words to describe how badly he will be missed. Nathan had the calmest demeanor and the ability to defuse any problem that he faced. His knowledge and insight were invaluable, not only to the families he served but also to those of us who had the privilege to serve along with him. His calling was his life, and every action he took was in service to it. Whether behind the pulpit, directing a funeral, comforting the grieving, or playing with his children, Nathan’s conviction was the bedrock upon which his life was built. His faith was never forced into conversation because it was an undeniable undertone to everything he did. Nathan’s hands and feet preached the gospel louder than most preachers manage to shout it from pulpits, and his kindness touched more hearts than any lifetime of sermons. A true evangelist, everywhere he went he inspired and encouraged. Though Nathan was known as a gentle giant because of his stature, it is not his shoe size that anyone truly remembers; it is the size of his heart. With a booming laugh that preceded him into a room and a calm, steady voice that could soothe the most volatile of situations, Nathan’s presence never went unnoticed. In Isaiah 55, the Lord speaks of the word from Heaven, which cannot return empty. Nathan’s life exemplified this verse. Though he is no longer with us, his influence stretches before us like his shadow, and we will live the remainder of our lives being covered by it. Nathan’s exuberant love centered on his family, and if his children were his world, his wife Michelle was the axis on which it turned. His soul swelled larger than life, touching everyone around him, until the earth could no longer hold him. Perhaps heaven is big enough for the man earth could not contain.
May God bless the memory of our dear brother and friend.
