Charley Crum

Charley Crum, 73, of Glen, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at St. Thomas West Hospital – Nashville, TN. He was born in Glen, MS on February 21, 1946 to the late Claude and Dora Newcomb Crum and attended Glendale Baptist Church. Charley’s life could be summed up with a Bible verse: Colossians 3:23. Everything he did, he did with his whole heart. One of Charley’s greatest passions was his cattle. Nothing pleased him more than to spend hours outdoors tending to them. It was in this work that he taught his family how to care for others, to give of themselves, to work hard, and to mend things they didn’t break. In the church of his pasture, he preached by his behavior on devotion, on merit, and on faithfulness. For twenty three years Charley worked at Caterpillar, where his work ethic and unwavering pursuit of excellence earned him the respect of his peers. It was Charley’s belief that while no good deed went unrewarded, rewards rarely came without the deeds. His life was full of deeds that deserved reward, though Charley never expected or required them. It was with energy and love that he tackled any task, and with gentleness and kindness that he taught the same principles to his family. If it is true that you can know a man by his fruits, Charley’s fruits speak for themselves. His garden thrived from his labor, his cattle flourished, his family grew closer to each other and to God. One glance at his mischievous smile and laughing eyes conveyed the humor and heart which made up his personality. He met life with an infectious smile, believing that it could bring him nothing that effort and God could not overcome. It is often said that heaven is a place of rest. For Charley’s sake we hope that is not entirely true – that there is a corner with a green pasture, a herd of cattle, a set of tools, and some broken fences. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm Saturday, April 27, 2019 and from 1 pm till service time Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Magnolia Funeral Home.
