Alma Gene Whitehurst, 92, of Corinth, MS, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Guys, TN on February 18, 1928 to the late Horace Grady and Celia Poindexter Farris and was a current member of Christ Chapel at Box Chapel. Gene was a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church where she along with her late husband served on numerous committees and coordinated many events and fund raisers for the church. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and especially enjoyed cooking and sharing her wonderful desserts at church. She was especially known for her famous coconut cakes that church members fought over at fund raisers. She served as a Red Cross Volunteer and was employed for 17 years with Home Interiors and Gifts. Gene began her career in sales and was later promoted to sales manager for a territory covering parts of three states. She was honored for her achievement in sales. Her hobbies were spending time with her family, gardening and cooking. Gene and Harold loved to travel, and they visited all 50 states, Canada, and the Bahamas. Her favorite trip was to Alaska and Canada. She will forever be remembered in the hearts of those she loved. Due to the pandemic of Covid-19 visitation and services will be for family only on Wednesday, January 13, 2021at Magnolia Funeral Home – South Chapel officiated by Pastor Stephen Ludlam. Interment will follow in Henry Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home - South is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor Gene’s memory include her daughters, Sandra McKee (Jack) of Memphis and Cheri Miller of Corinth; her grandchildren, Ryan McKee (Liz) of Memphis and Jessica Levy (Philip) of Oxford; her great grandchildren, Lily Levy, George Levy, Betty Gene Levy, Grace Levy, Pippa Levy, Evaline McKee, and Jack McKee; her brother, Bob Farris (Betty) of Counce, TN; her sisters, Geneva Wegman of Corinth and Emma Newcomb of Corinth; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Whitehurst; her sister, Earline Maples; and her son-in-law, Benny Miller. The family requests that you honor Gene’s memory by taking food or flowers to someone who needs a brighter day just like she always loved to do or consider a donation to Christ Chapel at Box Chapel or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
