Harley Marvin Hight

Harley Marvin Hight, 105, of Corinth, was born March 25, 1912 in Hamilton, Alabama. He was the last of 8 children born to James Rassie Hight and Loueda Jane Davis Hight. He died March 23, 2018 just two days before his 106th birthday. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 3 pm until service time at 5pm at the Church of the Crossroads in Corinth. Magnolia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hight married Pearl Gann Hight March 5, 1933. Harley and Pearl lived in Corinth until her passing in 2011 at the age of 93. They were married for 78 years and have 5 children, Marvin Nelson Hight (Shirley), Shirley Francis Craine (Glynn), Gerald Wayne Hight (Nancy), Jerry Keith Hight (Melba), and Angela Suzette Pruitt (Chris). They have 14 grandchildren, Nelson Hight (Pam), Melanie Brown( Carroll), David Craine (Kathy), Steve Craine, Joe Craine (Staci), Beth Blythe (Ross), Kim Doles (John), Brad Hight, Trudy Littlejohn (Tony), Todd Hight (Rosanna), Ted Hight (Tammye), Sabrina Nunley (Jesse), Will Pruitt and Erika Pruitt, 31 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hight was a kind and quiet man –ever a gentleman – always preferring others before himself. He was a wise and practical man – never forceful, but always ready to help when he saw an opportunity. He was generous and giving – always working to provide for his family and others in need. He always looked for, and found the good in those he met; and never spoke ill of anyone. Mr. Hight was an honest man, with his family, his friends and in his work. Whether in his long career as a contractor, or in sales, or in a retail setting, his business dealings were above reproach. He would suffer a loss to himself rather than go back on his word to another person. He was a learned man. He had many books and learned many skills from farming to painting and paper hanging, from operating a contracting business to sales, to managing a retail grocery store. He had a quick wit and a smile that showed a warm and friendly personality . Mr. Hight loved deeply – without flash or fuss – with a devotion to his wife, his children, his entire family that was genuine and real. He also loved his church, his church family, and he loved his Lord. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of Church of the Crossroads serving as trustee, secretary-treasurer, and usher. In the last years of his life he could be heard praising his Lord while lying in the darkness or while walking in his home – never boisterous – never wanting to attract attention. Just a low “Praise the Lord” and “Thank you Jesus”. Harley Hight was a good man. To paraphrase the words of King David in the 23rd Psalms – “Surely goodness and mercy have followed me all the days of my life: and now I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. Oh, what a legacy – what a void in our lives. And oh, what a high benchmark he left for us all. He was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Pearl Gann Hight, by his parents, James Rassie and Loueda Jane Davis Hight, his sisters, Lydia White, Arvilla Hight, Effie Harbert, Lillian McFalls, and his brothers, John McDonald, William “Will” Hight, and James Walter Hight. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Bro. Eddie McFalls, Bro. Jared Hight and Bro. Nelson Hight will officiate the service. Magnolia Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Harley Marvin Hight.
