Virginia Russell Oaks

Virginia Russell Oaks, 89, of Corinth, MS, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Alcorn County, MS on August 7, 1930 to the late Arthur Blain and Anner Elizabeth Burns Russell and graduated from Farmington High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, Dock Oaks on December 30, 1950 and enjoyed 54 years of life together. Virginia was a faithful member of Church of the Crossroads where she poured her love into everyone she met. She enjoyed working outdoors with her flowers, loving on her fur babies and spending time with her children and grandchildren who called her Mamaw. Her annual Christmas shopping trip was a tradition looked forward to by her family every year, financed by a penny their father would instruct them not to spend in one place. Virginia has now gone on her final trip where we are sure she is scoping out the best places to take her family on their first reunited Christmas together in Heaven. She will forever be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her family and friends till we meet again. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm Friday, January 31, 2020 and from 10 am till service time Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Magnolia Funeral Home. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories officiated by Bro. Nelson Hight and Bro. Donnie Waldrop. Pallbearers include Reece Terry, James Little, Mark Mills, Ray Bullington, Glenn Fowler, and Johnny James. Honorary pallbearers include the Tweenagers Sunday School Class. Interment will be in Magnolia Gardens. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor Virginia’s memory include her daughters: Terri Whitfield and husband Abe, Margie Marlar and husband Kenny, Patsy Cannon and husband Mike and Lisa Taylor and husband Billy all of Corinth; her son: Leonard D. Oaks of Corinth; her grandchildren: Ryan Whitfield (Melody), Abbey Whitfield, Dr. Clint Marlar (Aimee), Nick Marlar (Jennifer), Brandi Butler (Johnny), Taylor Lee (Lindsey), Amber Parks (Justin), Wendy Hutcheson, Casey Oaks and Katie Oaks; 10 great-grandchildren; her special fur babies, Chinette and Toby; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.
