William (Bill) O. Gant

William (Bill) O. Gant, 81 of Corinth, MS went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in Memphis, TN. He was born July 27, 1936 to the late William R and Jewell (Shields) Gant in Corinth and graduated from Kossuth High School. He won the high school talent contest and later became a member of the Harmony 4 Quartet. In 1970 he and a group of young men had a lifelong dream in which they would share the message of Jesus Christ with others across the country and became the Heisman Quartet. During high school he also began making hand poured custom fishing lures that he sold all over the country and still made up until this day. Lord only knows how many he has made. He worked many years as supervisor at Wurlitzer Mfg then went on to become Sheriff of Alcorn County from 1982 until 1990. He shared many stories from back in those days. Upon leaving the Sheriff’s Dept he joined his brother Roger as a professional crappie fishing guide and they provided this service to people from all over this country. This lead them into professional tournament fishing where in 2011 they won the Crappie Masters National Championship. He is a lifelong member and the longest serving deacon of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, although he said 64 because they had dated for 3 years prior, Janie (Barker) Gant. The sacred bond shown in this marriage was such an example to family and friends alike. He is also survived by daughter Tammy Morton and husband Carroll and son Memphiss Gant. His grandchildren Putter Hamlin and wife Brooke, Sasha Moore, Adrian Gant, Emily Stacy, Kristen Harmon and husband Tim, and Katie Beth Morton. Great grandchildren Mackenzie and Morgan Hamlin, Morgan Null and Walt Harmon. Siblings Ginger Maness and husband Wayne, Tom Gant and wife Mary, Roger Gant and wife Betty, Phillip Gant and wife Glenna, Lynn Hinton and husband Ray, Cathy Meteer and husband Mike, Nita Wolf and husband Joel and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents William and Jewell Gant, a brother Dan Gant. Pallbearers will be David George, Dexter Benjamin, Norman Benjamin, Craig Byrd, Mike Meteer, Jimmy Franks, Jimbo Wilkinson, and Roger Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Lawrence and the deacon body of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church.
