Dorothy Shipman Whitehurst, born on August 31, 1935, in Counce, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, in Corinth, Mississippi. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy's life was a testament to love, hard work, and dedication. Her professional journey began at the young age of 15, when she took her first job at Kuhn's Dime Store. Over the years, she furthered her career at Big K and Walmart, ultimately retiring after 25 years with Farm Bureau. Dorothy was known not only for her work ethic but also for her ability to connect with everyone around her. For 64 years, Box Chapel Methodist Church was a significant part of her life. A gifted cook, Dorothy shared many meals and countless happy moments with her family. She had a profound impact on those who knew her, always embodying the qualities of warmth and kindness. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Sanford Whitehurst; parents, William and Vera Milender Shipman, as well as her brother: Emery Shipman (Hilda); Sisters, Betty Sue Gant (Bo); Mary Ann Baldwin (Charles); Ollie May Shipman; Earlene Cook (J.T.); and Peggy Jo Shipman. She is survived by her two daughters, Patti Whitehurst and Debbie King (Brent). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, McKinley Inman (Rope), Hunter King, Matison King, and Hannah Holley (Bush), and her great-granddaughter, Reynlee Rose Inman. Dorothy is also remembered by her brothers, Marcus Shipman (Nyla), Jerry Shipman (Marie), as well as her special niece, Wanda Newcomb, and Kayla Felks, her devoted caregiver. A visitation will be held in her honor on September 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Magnolia Funeral Home on Highway 45 South in Corinth, Mississippi. The funeral service will take place the following day, September 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with interment in Corinth National Cemetery. Dorothy's life touched many, and her memory will forever reside in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished for generations to come.
