Janie Elizabeth Shea Richardson, 80, was born on April 29, 1946, in Manila, Arkansas, and entered her heavenly home on Friday, May 15, 2026. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, and again from 12:00 pm until service time on Sunday, May 17, 2026, all at the Magnolia Funeral Home-East. The service will be at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Magnolia Funeral Home-East with Bro. Tim Watson and Bro. Gary Hugh Porterfield officiating. Burial will follow in the State Line Cemetery in the Muddy Ridge community of Tippah County.
Janie grew up in Tippah County, mostly in the Muddy Ridge and Chalybeate communities. She called Burnsville, MS her home when she retired. Her faith, dedication, and love for family shaped her earthly life. She attended Chalybeate, Walnut, and Burnsville schools. She later graduated from Northeast Mississippi Junior College with a degree in cosmetology and soon after opened Janie’s Beauty Shop in Chalybeate.
In the early 1980s, Janie stepped out on faith and began working in construction. She assisted with the construction of Phase I of Kimberly-Clark in Corinth and was trained in blueprints and pipe fitting. Janie enjoyed a successful career in construction management for more than 30 years including working at the NASA Rocket Facility in . Through her work, she had the opportunity to travel and live in many places across the United States, from California to Delaware. She never met a stranger, and each job site brought new friends and memories that she cherished.
Janie loved time spent with family and friends. Family reunions, road trips, camping trips, and cookouts were some of her greatest joys. She enjoyed taking pictures and videos at these gatherings so those memories could be remembered and shared. She was also known for making the best turkey and rice, North Carolina BBQ, and homemade caramel pies.
Janie was one of ten children born to Mike Shea Jr. and Mittie Hollis Shea. She is survived by her three children: son, Roy Lee Richardson (Virginia) of Corinth; daughter, Tammy Jo Rogers of Burnsville; and son, Bobby Lee Richardson (Michelle)of Brandon, Mississippi.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Philip Lee Richardson (Anna) ; Jake Rogers (Landry Fuller); Addison Lee Richardson; Avery Richardson; and Samantha Hurst (TJ); and her great-grandchildren, Chloe Hurst, Tatum Hurst, and Dalton Lee Richardson.
She is survived by her brother, Mikey Shea (Sharon); sisters, Brenda Carol Gant (Jerry), Mary Bennett, Judy Long (Lowell), and Melissa Jones (Dale); sister-in-law, Ann Shea; and special friends, Bridget Lopez, Dellene Nails Shackelford, Camille Galloway, and Mary Beth King.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike Shea Jr. and Mittie Hollis Shea, and her brothers, O’Neil Shea, William Shea, Danny Shea, and Travis Shea.
Janie was strong in her faith. Wherever she lived, she always found a church and spent time in prayer and worship. She enjoyed listening to Southern gospel music, watching Grand Ole Opry reruns, and watching NASCAR racing.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation and love to the staff at Longwood Community Living Center of Booneville for the care and compassion shown to Janie. A special thanks is also extended to the doctors, nurses, and CNAs at North Mississippi Medical Center inpatient hospice. Your love, patience, and dedication brought comfort to Janie and her family.
