A celebration of life service for John Wayne Johnson, 72, of Corinth, MS will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Magnolia Funeral Home – East. Bro. James Voyles will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Magnolia Funeral Home – East. John Wayne was born September 9, 1953, and he passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, in Memphis, TN. He was of the Christian faith and was a Veteran of the US Army. John Wayne Johnson lived life with a curiosity as deep as the history he loved to study. He had a passion for learning about the Civil War, collecting relics and stories that connected him to the past. Whether he was arrowhead hunting, metal detecting, or exploring the land with a keen eye, he found joy in the search—always chasing the next discovery. Motorcycles were more than a hobby for him; they were freedom. He loved the open road, the rumble beneath him, and the peace that came from riding—sometimes surrounded by friends, sometimes riding alone with nothing but the wind and his thoughts. His dog, Precious, was his constant companion, his “ride or die to the end”, faithfully by his side through every adventure. Their morning trips to Joe’s Diner became such a tradition that the staff affectionately nicknamed him “Bologna Man,” a title he wore with a grin. He enjoyed fishing, music, and the thrill of living life on his own terms. John rode the adventure of life boldly and unapologetically. He was outspoken, unfiltered, and true to himself— that was part of his charm. He didn’t blend in; he stood out.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Joshua Adam Johnson; honorary daughter, Kyah Rencher; brother, Charlie Johnson; sisters, Barbara Wilbanks and Darlene Watkins; lots of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis H. and Nora Lucille Johnson; brothers, David Johnson and Oneal Johnson and sisters, Wanda Jean Tubby and Glenda Eaton.

John Wayne’s story is one of grit, curiosity, and a spirit that refused to be anything but authentic. His memory will ride on in the lives he touched and the stories he leaves behind.
