Born on November 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Ruby and Leon Potts and grew up with a deep sense of faith, family, and service—values that shaped every part of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Carolyn Potts, who remained his constant companion and greatest blessing. He leaves behind four children: John Potts Jr. (Susan) of Haleyville, AL; Wesley Potts; Ben Potts (Dana); and Mary Allison Bradford (Dusty), all of Corinth, MS. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Allie Bradford, Hayden Bradford, Willow Potts, and Walker Potts, each of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Potts of Corinth, MS; one sister, Sara Kidd of Resaca, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thompson Cary Potts; one sister-in-law, Julia Potts; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Kidd. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and longtime Sunday school teacher, he lived a life marked by faith, integrity, and quiet strength. He was an avid reader, loved to study the Bible and work outside in the yard. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. His time with the Marines, especially with his Mike 3-1 brothers, held a sacred place in his heart. He cherished every opportunity to reunite with them, honor their shared sacrifices, and remember the brothers lost in battle. His deep love of country and unwavering patriotism were gifts he instilled in his entire family.Above all, he will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to those he loved, and the example he set through a life well lived.
