With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Sara Kathryn Lee McAfee, a devoted wife and mother who exemplified love, faith, and joy to all who knew her. She passed away at the age of 84. Born in Selmer, Tennessee, to Lloyd and Jewell Lee, she grew up immersed in faith, family, and the simple joys of life. While growing up in Michie and attending school, she met Eugene, the love of her life. They began dating in high school and were married on June 11, 1960, building a lifetime of love and family together. She held a variety of roles over the years, including customer service at Sears in Corinth, bookkeeping for the Michie Water Plant, volunteering at Shiloh National Park, and later serving as secretary at Michie School, but her greatest joy was caring for her family. She expressed her love through the everyday moments—warm meals, a welcoming home, and countless moments spent rocking her children and grandchildren. Her home was filled with warmth and music, especially the sound of the Statler Brothers playing when her children came in from the bus. She loved spending time in the kitchen, making special breakfasts like biscuits with gravy, blackberries, chocolate gravy, and homemade strawberry jam. She found happiness in the simple things—sitting on the porch in her rocking chair or swing, walking through the yard, and always finding something that needed tending or improving. She loved gardening, trying new ideas while staying true to the methods she trusted, especially when it came to her tomatoes. She had a gift for growing things, carefully nurturing African violets and even raising a lemon tree from a single seed. She also had a special knack for spotting four-leaf clovers in her yard, finding beauty and blessings where others might have missed them. Her days were guided by her daily Bible reading and a deep sense of faith. She kept a home that was always cared for with pride and attention. She enjoyed spending time with friends at car shows in Pigeon Forge, listening to storytelling in Alabama, and visiting the Mid-South Fair. Known for her quick wit and remarkable memory, she delighted her family with stories of her early years, leaving a legacy of laughter, wisdom, and love. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched. Kathryn is survived by her dedicated husband of 66 years, Eugene “Gennie” McAfee; their loving children, Tony McAfee (Joy), Tessa Bullock (Randy) and Tanya Guidry (Scott); their treasured grandchildren, Courtney Garner (Nathan), Caleb Bullock (Meghan), Caitlyn McAfee (Justin), Hannah Bullock, Lauren Linam (Will), Emilee Foster (Pierson) and Sara Guidry (Grey); their adored great-grandchildren, Peyton McAfee, Rylee Garner and Chaylin McAfee; and her cherished brother, C.S. Lee (Pat). She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Research Center.
