Larry Brice Duncan, 78, peacefully entered his eternal home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Magnolia Regional Health Center, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 26, 1947, in Corinth, Mississippi, to Brice and Lillie Mae Duncan.
A celebration of life service for Larry will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Magnolia Funeral Home – South with interment in Magnolia Gardens. Rev. Nelson Hight and Rev. Brian Davis will officiate the service with Rev. Jared Hight delivering the committal at the graveside. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Magnolia Funeral Home – South.
Larry graduated from Alcorn Central High School in 1965. On June 2, 1967, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Suitor Duncan. For 59 wonderful years they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, sacrifice, and unconditional love.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he answered an even greater calling by dedicating his life to serving the Lord. He faithfully pastored churches in Magee, Escatawpa, and Poplarville, Mississippi. Whether standing behind a pulpit or sitting in his recliner with an open Bible, Larry's greatest desire was for others to know Christ. He loved studying God's Word and sharing the wisdom he found within its pages.
Larry spent more than 30 years as a skilled brick mason. He took tremendous pride in his work, believing that anything worth doing was worth doing well. Whether laying brick or crafting beautiful stonework, he was known for his attention to detail, strong work ethic, and commitment to perfection in his work.
To those who knew him best, Larry was the one everyone turned to. He was the family counselor before anyone realized they needed counseling, the steady voice of reason during life's storms, and the one who could always be counted on for advice. He possessed a quiet strength that made people feel safe and heard. His patience seemed endless, and it would be difficult to find anyone who ever heard him speak an unkind word.
Family gatherings were never complete until Larry offered the blessing. Whether around the dinner table, celebrating birthdays, holidays, weddings, or life's ordinary moments, he was the one everyone naturally looked to when it was time to pray. His prayers weren't simply words; they were heartfelt conversations with the Lord that reflected the faith by which he lived every day.
Through the years, Larry found great joy in the outdoors. He spent countless hours deer hunting, running dogs, and fishing at Pickwick Dam. Larry also had an extraordinary love for animals. His faithful companion, Samson, who preceded him in death, held a special place in his heart and remained a cherished part to him. His current pets, Josie, Tango, and Jubal, were never just dogs; they were family. Larry fixed their supper plate nightly before his own. Caring for others, whether family, friends, or four-legged companions, was simply part of who he was.
To many, he was known as Harry Wayne, a nickname that stayed with him throughout much of his life. To his sons, he was simply Pop, a name spoken with love and respect. But the name he cherished most was "Doo Dad," lovingly given to him by his grandchildren. Nothing lit up his face quite like hearing those two words.
Family was Larry's greatest blessing and his proudest accomplishment. He delighted in every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren, sharing stories, offering gentle wisdom, praying over them, celebrating every milestone, and encouraging every dream. He was their biggest supporter, their steady source of guidance, and a constant reminder of God's love. They never had to question how deeply they were loved, because Larry made sure they knew it every single day.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Suitor Duncan; his children, Darrell Duncan, Todd Duncan (Shellie), and Angi Wilhite (Lee Bo); his cherished grandchildren, Bryce Duncan (Bailey), Brylee Kate Barnett (Avery), Pecos Wilhite, Kota Wilhite (Millie Joe), Wyatt Wilhite, Jon Todd Duncan (Allison), and Isabella Duncan (Ashton); his daughter-in-law, Amy Duncan, his brother, Dwayne Duncan; his brother-in-law, Keith Suitor (Andrea); along with beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and countless lives touched by his ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brice and Lillie Mae Duncan; his brother, Loey Duncan; his parents-in-law, Ray and Gladys Suitor; and his brother-in-law, Billy Ray Suitor and his best buddy, Samson.
Although our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Larry's faith has become sight. The man who spent a lifetime telling others about Heaven is now home. He finished his race with humility, integrity, and steadfast faith, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured by earthly accomplishments alone, but by the countless lives he influenced through kindness, wisdom, and Christ-like love.
If Larry could leave one final message to those he loved, it would likely be the same message he lived every day: love God with all your heart, love your family well, keep your word, be kind to everyone, and never underestimate the power of prayer.
Pallbearers include Bryce Duncan, Jon Todd Duncan, Pecos Wilhite, Kota Wilhite, Wyatt Wilhite, Avery Barnett, and Ashton Godwin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mattthew Pettigrew, Alfredo Perez and Breck Duncan.
