Mark Albert Champion, a man known for his simplicity and immense heart, passed away on May 26, 2026, in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on October 22, 1958, in Starke, Florida, Mark led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a profound sense of family and community.
Mark's professional journey was diverse and noteworthy. For 34 years, he faithfully served as a grocery store manager, contributing significantly to the communities he was part of. Following this, he dedicated 13 years as a reel tender for Quebecor/World Color, demonstrating his commitment and skill in a demanding role. In the final chapter of his career, Mark worked for 11 years as a Lieutenant Correctional Officer at the Alcorn County Correctional Center, where his steadfast nature and strong character were invaluable.
Beyond his professional life, Mark was a man of many interests and simple pleasures. He found joy in gardening, small engine repair, and mechanic work—a testament to his hands-on nature and problem-solving skills. Mark was also fond of grilling and maintaining his lawn, activities that reflected his love for the outdoors and creating a welcoming home environment. An avid learner of all things mechanical, he delighted in watching tractor repair videos on YouTube. His spirited loyalty extended to being a Florida Gator fan, a passion that brought him much happiness.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Janie Champion ; their son, Larry Don Bullock (Sarah Beth); and daughters Leslie Huggins (Corey), Sabrina Miller (Mike), Minnie Crum (John), and Gina Coleman (Joe). He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Brittany Stansel (Taylor Jones), Jaden Woodall (Conner), Elias Miller, Aubrey McKee, Alyssa Settlemires, Adrian McKee, Kellan Huggins, Lydia Miller, Kyndri Bullock, Margaret Miller, and Karston Bullock. Family ties were further enriched by his brothers, Donald Eugen Champion (Kathy) and Greg Champion, as well as his sisters, Paula Champion and Susan Derkman. Among those who held a special place in Mark’s life was Reverend T.G. Ramsey, a cherished friend. He is also remembered by other relatives and a broad circle of friends who valued his kindness and gentle spirit.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Donald Champion, and his mother, Lorraine Champion, whose memories he carried deeply in his heart.
