Funeral services for SGT Matthew Thomas “Tommy” Hopper, 26, of Corinth are set for Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:30am at Tate Baptist Church with interment in Corinth National Cemetery with Military Honors. Bro. Mickey Trammel and Bro. Daniel Jones will officiate the service. Visitation will be Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Tate Baptist Church.
Matthew Thomas Hopper was born in West Point Mississippi and grew up in Corinth, Mississippi. He attended grade school in Corinth and high school at Alcon Central High and Middleton High School.
He was active at Tate Baptist Church and in the Boy Scouts where he achieved the rank of Star Scout.
After High School, he moved to Houston, Tx where he worked in the welding and construction industries. While in Houston he met and married his wife Elizabeth.
In 2017 he followed the path of his grandfathers and parents and enlisted in the military services. He attended training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo, graduating as military police in the U.S. Army. His first duty station was Fort Bragg, N.C. He deployed to South Korea in October 2020.
Matthew Thomas was enthusiastic and curious he enjoyed many hobbies which included fishing, cooking, gardening, working on cars, taking care of his dogs, traveling with his wife and spending time with his large family.
Matthew Thomas was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Matthew Thomas is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hopper of Houston, Texas; father, Matthew Hopper of Amory, MS; his fur babies, Charley and Lilly; brother, Brandon J. Hopper of Corinth; nephew, Jackson Dale Hopper of Selmer, TN; maternal grandmother, Janette Copes of West Point, Ms; other relatives and host of friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Charlam Hopper; maternal grandfather, Duane Copes; paternal grandparents: William M. and Alma J. Hopper.
Pallbearers will be Michael Elliott, Nathan Hopper, Iban Ocampo, Modesto Ocampo, Joel Belton and Aldeir Ramirez. Matthew Mathis will serve as honorary pallbearer.
