Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Philip Junior Mathis, 83, of Corinth on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Magnolia Funeral Home – EAST. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 12pm-2pm at Magnolia Funeral Home- EAST. Bro. Ralph Culp and Bro. Philip Caples will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Bubba Suitor, Pat Barnes, Freddie Mathis, Russell Meeks, Eddie Joe Davis and Bill Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Potts, the men’s Sunday School Class at Shiloh Baptist Church and retired and current employees of ACE Power. Philip was born June 4, 1942, to Willie and Annie Mae Hodum Mathis. He passed from this life after a tough fight following complications during and after surgery at Baptist Hospital in Memphis on April 27, 2026. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Philip was a 1960 graduate of the last class of AAHS (Alcorn Agricultural High School), now known as Kossuth High School. He worked for ACE Power for 36 years working his way from meter reading up to the position of line foreman. A farmer and fisher, there’s no place he would rather be than on his tractor, working in his garden or shop, or cat fishing or trout fishing with his many fishing buddies. He loves his family and treasured time spent with them. He not only enjoyed catching fish, he enjoyed cooking them, too. He loved sharing those meals with his many friends and relatives. Philip married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Suitor and they have had almost 64 years together at Suitors Crossing. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Bonnie; daughters, Nena Work (Johnny) and Nancy Harvell (Brandon); grandchildren, Alex Work, Nathan Harvell and Natalie Harvell; many other relatives and precious friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Mathis; mother, Annie Mae Mathis; siblings, Clebert Mathis (Zillian), JD Mathis (Lola) and Willie Mae Sargent (Alton). In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made in his honor to Shiloh Baptist Church of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. Philip Junior Mathis.
