Ricky was born December 30, 1954, in Booneville, MS and he passed peacefully with his wife by his side Friday, October 2, 2026, in Tupelo, MS.

A man of quiet wisdom, steady faith, and a good sense of humor, Ricky lived his life with a practical outlook and a generous heart. Ricky enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, and found his greatest joy in spending time with his family — most of all his sweet granddaughters, who were the light of his life. He was known for his sensible nature, often reminding his boys that it made far more sense to buy a whole gallon of ice cream from the store than pay for a single cup at Baskin Robbins. It was the kind of simple, good‑natured logic that made everyone smile.

He devoted more years of his life to blood donation than not, faithfully giving whenever he could. He believed deeply in the importance of donating and encouraged others to do the same, knowing that a simple act could save a life.

Ricky also gave his time and compassion to ministry, volunteering with Oakland Baptist Church’s Sheltering Tree Ministry, where he served others with humility and kindness. His faith was strong, steady, and lived out in the way he treated people every day. He was a proud member of Oakland Baptist Church and carried his faith close to his heart.

After many dedicated years at Caterpillar, Ricky retired and poured himself into the passion that had always called to him — farming. He loved working the land, tending to his horses, and sharing them with anyone who wanted to experience the joy of being around them. Ricky found peace in the rhythm of farm life and fulfillment in giving others the chance to enjoy it too.

Ricky leaves behind a legacy of generosity, practicality, faith, and love — the kind of legacy built not from grand gestures, but from a lifetime of steady kindness, hard work, and devotion to his family and community. Those who knew him will remember his humor, his good sense, his strong faith, and the way he made life sweeter simply by being in it.

Those left to honor his memory include his devoted wife of 43 years, Tammy Johnson; sons, Brent Johnson (Mollie) and Dalton Johnson; granddaughters, Eleanor Katheryn Johnson and Clara Ann Johnson; in-laws, Travis and Katheryn Smith; sisters-in-law, Tonya Smith and Anilece Stewart (Devin); brother-in-law, Randy Smith; nephews, Kenneth Johnson, Quaylon Stewart and Remi Stewart; other relatives and a host of friends.

Those who welcomed Rick into heaven include his parents, Carmon and Savannah Pearl Johnson; brother, Mack Johnson (Helen); sister, Judy Johnson (John Stevens) and niece, Cindy Burns.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to OBC Sheltering Tree or Oasis Medical Center. Magnolia Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ricky Johnson.
