Robert "Bob" Sutphin

Robert Jackson Sutphin, Sr. (“Bob”) passed away August 31, 2023 at his home in Corinth, Mississippi, at the age of 76.  

Bob will be celebrated by family and friends at a Memorial Service, at West Corinth Church of Christ, Friday, September 8, 2023 at  5 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made care of Wenasoga Church of Christ, 448 Co Rd 702, Corinth, MS 38834.   

Bob was born on March 14, 1947 in Pulaski, Virginia to Floyd and Rosie Sutphin.  On his 20th birthday, Bob enlisted in the Army.  He served two voluntary tours in the Vietnam War, rising to the rank of sergeant, and leading his platoon in combat missions.  His service and heroism were recognized, including a Bronze Star with “V” for valor.  At the end of his tour, he met his wife and closest friend, Maureen Jane Henry.  They married April 9, 1970.  

Bob was a kind, caring Christian.  Always willing to lend a helping hand, Bob put others before himself.  He spent his latter working years caring for children at Pinevale Childrens Homes.  Bob’s life was defined by his positivity and sense of humor - no matter the trial or tribulation. His love for and devotion to his family lives on and is testament to the man he was.   

Bob is survived by his loving wife of more than 53 years, Maureen, and their three sons, Robert, and wife Tara Mowbray of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jeremy, and wife Samantha Moffatt of Melbourne, Australia; Cristopher, and wife Miriam Adame of Murdunna, Australia; grandchildren Helena, Archer and Penelope, sister Linda Elizabeth Smith, and beloved dog Macy.  

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonnie Mae Morehead, brothers Ben Sutphin, and James Garland Sutphin.
