Funeral services for Shirley Ann Mathis, 79, of Walnut are set for Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11am at Mount Pleasant Church with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 5pm until time of service at Mount Pleasant Church. Rev. Dock Dollar will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Andy Zills, Eli Heavener, Lonnie Heavener, Jimmy Tate Smith, Sterling Mathis and Scott Carter. Born October 27, 1944 in Ripley, MS, Shirley passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in New Albany, MS. She was a retired material handler for Quebor World Color and of the Baptist faith. Those left to cherish Shirley's memory include her son, Mickey Mathis and wife Susan; daughter, Kimberly Ann Mathis; 5 grandchildren, Nealy Mathis, Jon Ford Mathis (Chelsea), Sterling Mathis, Candice Heavener (Lonnie) and Conner Mathis; 5 great grandchildren, Kayleigh Milam, Eli Heavener, Troy Heavener, Tucker Mathis and Sadie Mathis; sisters, Donna Carter (Buck) and Kathy Sharon Ray (Kenny); brother-in-law, Jimmy Tate Smith; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. E. Mathis; father, Henry "Bud" Cardwell; mother, Annie Fay Luna Cardwell; brother, Rickey Tate Cardwell and sister, Linda Joyce Smith. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Shirley Ann Mathis.
