Valera Frances Wicks Kirk Dalton passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Community Hospice in Verona Hospice at the age of 89. Ms. Valera was born at home May 19, 1922. The only child of Floyd E. & Edna M. Wicks, Valera excelled at her studies graduating Valedictorian of her 1940 class at Booneville. She also was an excellent pianist and organist. After high school, she enrolled in Business College at Paducah, KY where she met and later married Captain Jack B. Kirk, a B-17 bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After WWII, they started their family having 2 sons, Rodney B. and Gary N. Kirk. They settled in picturesque Morganton, N.C. nestled in the mountains of western N.C. They owned & operated Kirk’s Clothing and Valera worked as a legal secretary for several lawyers including N.C. Senator Sam Ervin (the Watergate prosecutor) After divorcing in the mid 1960’s Valera and the boys moved to Corinth to be near her parents. She married Adolf R. Dalton, an engineer on the Corinth Covina Railroad who preceded her in death in 1976. She began working at the National Bank of Commerce (later Trustmark National Bank) and worked there diligently until her retirement in 1997. She is survived by her Sons: Rodney B. Kirk & Gary N. Kirk both of Corinth, MS 2 Granddaughters: Jana K. Arnold – Corinth, MS & Heather K. Rachel – Minneapolis, MN 2 Great Grandchildren: Darby Hayes Arnold & Jackson Rachel Other Relatives and a host of friends Pallbearers will be Vick Marlar, Clint Droke, Lanny Monroe & Bobby Roberts She is welcomed to Heaven by her Husband: Adolf Dalton Father of her sons: Jack B. Kirk Parents: Floyd E. & Edna M. Wicks
